Migrate existing installation

In your operations it may happen that you want to move the !MC5 installation from one system to another, either because the PC used so far is to be replaced or because the !MC5 workstation is to be moved to another department. The migration is a simple process where !MC5 supports you.

You start the migration by deactivating the license on your current system. This will also create a backup. Then you install a version of !MC5 at least version 5.06.0005 or higher. Finally, import a backup and activate the license for the new system. The following instructions will guide you step by step through this process.

License server

Make sure that the Bartsch Software license server is accessible from your new system, so that the activation of your license can be performed successfully. Please also read the notes in the chapter Network Settings and Required Ports.

1 Start the migration of your system by selecting Migrate Installation from the main menu. This will also create a backup of the configuration and log data as well as the EDI messages.

2 Now the following window appears. Confirm with the Yes button if you want to proceed with the migration.

3 In the !MC5 Save Backup dialog a name for your migration file is already suggested. You can also choose a different name here and adjust the destination directory where the file should be saved. The backup file contains all necessary license, configuration and log data, as well as all EDI messages. As soon as you click the Save button, !MC5 will create a backup and deactivate the license for this system.

4 !MC5 has now saved a backup and deactivated your license on this system. You can now close this window and proceed to the next step.

5 Now install !MC5 on the new system. To install a backup in the registration dialog you need !MC5 version 5.06.005 or newer. You can  download the latest setup from https://www.bartschsoft.de/de/mc5/download.html.

6 Execute the setup file and follow the instructions of the wizard. When the installation is finished, check the Launch !MC5 option. Click Finish to start !MC5.

Migration_002

7 If a !MC5 was already installed on the new system, the License error window may appear first. If this happens, click the button Online registration to start the registration wizard.

Migration_008

8 In the registration wizard, select Import a backup and register your license. At this point, make sure that the Bartsch Software license server is accessible from this system.

Migration_009

9 In the Open file dialog , select  a backup that you want to import. If the backup of your current version, of which you created a backup when starting the migration, is damaged or unsuitable for other reasons, you can also select any other backup file.

10 In the next step, configuration, logs and EDI messages are now imported automatically. The license data is transferred for online registration.

Migration_018

11 The registration wizard then guides you through the individual steps of the online registration. Not only the license key but also the address and contact data from the previous installation are transferred. Check and correct name and address if necessary. Continue by clicking Next.

Migration_012

12 If the contact data is correct, click Next.

Migration_013

13 When you have reached this step, click Send to send the registration data.

Migration_014

14 Now you have successfully completed the migration. If the option Launch !MC5 is activated, the program is started automatically. If software updates are available, they will be installed beforehand. As soon as you  click on Next, a window opens in which you can make your proxy settings, if necessary.

Migration_015

15 If access to the Internet is only possible via a proxy, you can make the necessary settings here. Please also read the notes under Proxy. Then click on Update. As soon as the update is finished and if the option Launch !MC5 was activated, !MC5 is started automatically.

Migration_019

16 The new installation is now basically ready for use. However, not all necessary actions can be performed automatically during the migration. Therefore, please work through the following check list to ensure the proper operation of the software:

Were there special firewall rules for the previous system? If so, do these need to be adapted for the new system?

Was port forwarding set up and has it been adjusted?

Are all network paths and network drives that are to be used accessible from the new system?

Do any drives or directories need to be shared on the new system?

Are print rules set up and is the appropriate printer available/set up for the new system?

Was the previous system running in service mode and should the new system also be started as a service?

Are the files in the input and output directory of the old system needed on the new system? If so, these must be copied.
