Installation and setup

In order to use the !MC5 Client/Server add-on, both the clients and the server must first be set up accordingly:

1 Install the !MC5 TCP/IP Client on all client computers. There are two files in the installation directory of !MC5 for this purpose: The installation program SetupClient_e.exe installs the client and creates appropriate shortcuts in the start menu and on the desktop. Alternatively, the file ClientTCPIP.exe can be copied directly to the client computer and used. In this case, shortcuts may have to be created manually.

2 Start !MC5, open Settings / !MC5 / Remote controls in the navigation tree.

3 Activate the option Client/Server (TCP/IP) and set under Port a TCP/IP port that is not yet used on your system. The default setting for this is port 10000. Save the changes using the Save settings button.

Open port in Windows firewall

If you are using a local firewall on the computer running !MC5, the port used by the client/server module must be opened in the firewall. Please refer to the manual of your firewall for details. Depending on the firewall you are using, you should be asked automatically after activating the client/server module whether the port used should be unblocked or not. If the port is blocked by a firewall, the clients will not be able to connect to !MC5.

4 Clients can only log on to the server with a valid user name and password. For this, corresponding users must be set up in !MC5. To do this, open the user management via Settings / !MC5 / Users.

5 Click the Add new user button to create a new user.

6 Specify at least a User name and a Password for the new user. These will be required later for logging in via the client. Then tick the Client/Server-Users item under Groups. This adds the user to the Client Users group. Only users who are member of this user group can log in via the client.

7 Accept the settings for the new user with OK. The server is now activated and clients can log on with the created user IDs.

Note

Two clients can never be logged in with the same user name at the same time. Therefore, a separate user should be created in the user database for each client. When assigning the user names, it should be noted that this also serves as a forwarding address for receiving data in ENGDAT format. Therefore, it must not be longer than 14 characters.
